CARA MAY GORMAN

I was born on June 13, 1983, at home, which was 21 Regent St, Albany, NY.

Soon my sister Sadie was born, and then my brother Nigel, and we had an awesome time being homeschooled, playing kickball with the neighborhood kids, singing, drawing, swinging, eating. We also went to the land a lot, where we planned to build our new house, and to Paradox, our camp in the Adirondacks.

Then we sold our house and moved to an apartment in Pop and Mammy's house, another great place to be. In 1993 our house in Nassau, NY was finished, and we moved in on December 1st.

Then William was born on November 8, 1994. New house, new baby, and William was greatly enjoyed by everyone in the family.

As teenagers, being homeschooled was still very satisfactory, except that living out in the country made our social lives rather quiet for a while. That's when the pen pals started. During my early teen years, the highlight of every day was the arrival of the mail. Other than writing letters to up to 60 regular pen pals, some things that took up my time included singing at church, reading, baking, making clothes, and a little bit of drawing (less than before).

Then I went to college. I started out in fall 2001 as a part time student at Hudson Valley Community College, since I had no idea what I wanted to do. I didn't really even think about it much. My second semester I thought a drawing class sounded fun; after that, it was as if the decision was made for me--I was an art student.

In 2005, after receiving my GED and my associates degree in fine arts, I transferred to Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA. It was my first time living away from home and feels like a whole separate world now. As a student in 2006, I also spent a month studying abroad with the art program at HVCC, in Italy.

My concentration at Montserrat was in painting and I received my bachelor's degree after two years. I loved college from the beginning to the end, though it's interesting to see how far I've come spiritually and mentally since I graduated.

I now live back with my family, Christ is my Love, Joy, Peace, and I rent a studio space in Troy, NY. I work as a substitute assistant teacher at Wildwood Schools, which is very fun and rewarding, and still allows me time to devote to artwork. All glory to the Father.
